Health Rights And Entitlements Under NRHM

The project ‘Health Rights and Entitlements of the Socially Excluded communities and Women under NRHM’ is a Poorest Areas Civil Society Programme (PACS) project. PACS is an initiative of the Department for International Development (DFID) of the UK government.

The objectives of the programme aim at reducing the gap in wellbeing status between the socially excluded groups in India and the rest of the population. The five year programme (2009-14) is being implemented in association with voluntary organizations on the issues of livelihood, education, health and nutrition.

Since 15th September 2011, SJKS in association with PACS Project and Swadhikar (New Delhi) is engaged with an aim of better health facilities of 40428 persons of the socially excluded communities, which is comprised of SC – 15256, ST – 22884, and Muslims – 2288. SJKS selected 60 villages in 60 Gram Panchayats of Amarwara and Mohkhed Blocks of the Chhindwara District. The work is being done for the Health Rights and Entitlements of the Socially Excluded Communities and Women Under the framework of NRHM.

Under the programme, SJKS is focused on the socially excluded communities and women, which are the target groups of the PACS programme. It includes the SC, ST, Muslim women, girls, the physically challenged and very poor people through Health Action Groups (HAGs).

Finally, the thrust of SJKS is the following points:

  1. To demand for improvement of basic services,
  2. To help the service providers work responsibly, and
  3. To reduce the difficulties and discrimination in the access of basic services to the socially excluded communities and groups.
