History
Since 2006, the Satyakam Jan Kalyan Samiti (SJKS) is consistently engaged in various campaigns and programmes, particularly related with SC, ST, backward and minority communities. SJKS has organized camps, conferences and rallies on women’s issues and rights, to empower them through self-reliant initiatives, skill development, formation of SHGs and making them aware of national and international socio-economic and political perspectives. SJKS was very keen with the legal rights of women, SC and ST communities and took various initiatives to combat the challenges of all types of violence on women during 2006-2010. SJKS conducted different trainings through Model Cluster Programmes. While taking initiatives for the problems of children, rural youth and old age group, SJKS covered issues related to different government schemes, such as MNREGA. The Panchayati Raj, RTI, water, environment and health issues also have been the major concern for SJKS.
In the Chhindwara district, SJKS, in association with Aanganwadi workers and health service providers, PHCs, District Hospitals launched an awareness campaign to reduce the Maternal Mortality Rate under the framework of NRHM. Under the Atal Bihari Child Health and Nutrition Mission Programme, SJKS organized vocational training programme for the parents of malnourished/ extremely underweight and underweight children in 11 blocks (Chhindwara, Amarkheda, Mohkhed, Bichhua, Harai, Chourai, Parasia, Junnardeo, Tamia, Sounsar and Padhurna) of the district.
Under the National Rural Livelihood Mission Programme, with the guidance of Woman and Child Development Department (Chhindwara), SJKS conducted various vocational training programmes to enhance the economic status of the parents of malnourished children through self-employment.
