Model Cluster Meena Class Project
During 2006 – 11, SJKS conducted educational and vocational trainings for students of the SC, ST, Backward Classes and Rural Government Higher Secondary Schools, under Model Cluster – Meena Class Project. SJKS trained 11870 students of the 11 blocks in the Chhindwara district. The training was aimed at their empowerment and economic, professional and skill development levels.
UNICEF developed the Meena Communication Initiative (MCI) as a mass communication project. It aimed at changing perceptions and behavior that hamper the survival, protection and development of girls in South Asia. Meena is a cartoon character from South Asia. She is a spirited, nine-year-old girl who braves the world, whether in her efforts to go to school or in fighting the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS in her village. Meena is used as a tool to impart the important messages on gender, child rights, education, protection and development. The Meena stories present many positive images of a girl succeeding against the odds to gain an equal treatment, love, care and respect. The creative and exciting story lines have promoted the social issues in an appealing and provocative way.
In India, the Meena series has attained national recognition and has been integrated as a communication tool within the ongoing nationwide education and communication programmers.
